Graph of characters (poster or chart paper)

4. Procedure:
I. Introduce the book Peter's Chair. Discuss the importance of family.
II. Read the book to the students, pointing out the main characters.
III. Using a graph prepared by the teacher, we will compare how many more and how many less.The students will work in whole group. Teacher will have the students count and chart the number of times each character appears in the book.
IV. The students will then graph buttons using the How Many Button Graph. Teacher should have the students color the circle using the color word above the circle. The student will place the buttons on the correct circle. The student will then place a button on the sheet (one button per box). Remove buttons one at a time and color the box.
V. Using YouTube the teacher will introduce the book Love You Forever. The YouTube video gives the tune for the song. Follow the YouTube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFX6pdwJWpA. Allow the students to listen to and learn the song.
The teacher will then read the book Love You Forever. The teacher will prompt the students to the sing the song at the appropriate time.
VI. Heart Hat Craft: The students will make a heart hat. Follow the link to the directions: http://alphamom.com/family-fun/holidays/diy-holiday-hats-for-every-occasion/
They will be given a choice as to which color they would like to color the hat. Once the hats are made the teacher will categorize the class by the color of their hearts. Group green, red, yellow, purple, etc. The book will be read again while students wear their Love You Forever hats.
5. Assessment:
Assessment will be done through discussion and by asking the student which colors do we have more of? Which color is the least?
